Sabbatical & Pilgrimage Planning

Designing restorative and reorienting journeys for reflection, renewal, and reimagining.

Time away does not automatically become renewing. A sabbatical can easily become an extended vacation and a pilgrimage merely another trip. Even a season intended for rest can become one more thing to accomplish. But when approached with intention, stepping away from familiar responsibilities, rhythms, and surroundings can create extraordinary space for rest, attentiveness, discovery, and reorientation.

Via helps leaders thoughtfully design sabbaticals and pilgrimages around the particular season of life and ministry in which they find themselves and the questions, desires, and needs they are carrying. This may include clarifying intentions, identifying meaningful places and experiences, developing rhythms of rest and prayer, connecting with people or communities along the way, attending to practical details, and thinking carefully about reentry. Rather than filling every available space, we help shape a journey spacious enough for surprise—one that allows people to return not merely rested, but seeing themselves, their lives, and their work with renewed perspective.

“The spiritual life does not remove us from the world but leads us deeper into it.”

Henri Nouwen

“And the end of all our exploring / Will be to arrive where we started / And know the place for the first time.”

T. S. Eliot
